Kiwi-Skate is a nationally recognized "Learn to Skate" programme for children aged 3-18 years old. We provide a safe and fun environment for kids to try their hand (and feet) at ice skating. This is the first place for all kids to start their journey on ice!

From this point they can transition into figure skating, speed skating and ice hockey! We have many kiwi skate success stories including NZ representative, Zara Anthony-Whigham and Dunedin Thunder player/Ice Black, Regan Wilson.

Course outline

Class time runs for duration of 60 minutes, this includes time in a group warm up and games at the end. Skaters are placed in groups that the coaches feel best suit their abilities. The final quarter of the session is dedicated to a progression unit, where the young skaters are taught skills that aim to enhance their competence on the ice.

Test Days

These occur during the term and allow skaters to progress through the badges, as they are able to. This achievement is marked with a certificate.

We recommend you dress for a ‘snow day’.

Winter jackets

Long trousers (preferably not jeans as they limit movement)

Thick socks

Children under 5 are obligated to wear a helmet
